Jay & Marie’s Auckland News 2016

Happy Xmas from us both now back in Auckland again for the past 4 years.

Our 2016 year started well and as I look through Jay’s diary, he spent most days walking for miles (kilometres) visiting people who were in the hospital here at our village, or taking cancer patients for treatment at the Hospice.

Early Feb, he had a great trip with his brother Peter to the 100th Anniversary of St Joseph’s Primary School where they attended whilst growing up in Taihape.

In March we both had a spectacular flight in a Cessna, which Jay had bid for in an Auction at Sacred Heart College previously. It was a perfect blue sky day as we flew firstly to Rotorua to circle over where we had lived on ten acres for forty two years. Then on to Tauranga where we landed for morning tea and then to Pauanui Beach where we had lunch and a good walk around as we used to holiday there with our family for many years as they were growing up.

Unfortunately on Mothers Day on the eighth May, Jay woke up depressed and realised his demons of the past had returned, as unfortunately over the past six months prior he had ceased taking his antidepressant medication as he felt so well and didn’t think he needed to take it anymore, very foolishly, as his serotonin levels dropped to zero, without my knowledge.

Oh dear, both our world spiralled as we knew what was ahead for us both. Our eldest grand daughter Isabella flew in from the USA on the ninth of May for a month holiday with us. We were so looking forward to her visit plus her boyfriend a week after her arrival, but alas, Jay became more depressed and
unfortunately he ended up in hospital the day before Isabella left…so sad.

He was in the Unit for three and a half months unfortunately, but as Christmas approaches we notice he is slowly improving, which is heartwarming to say the least.

We are flying down to Wellington to spend Xmas with Karl, Bonnie and their three daughters Molly, Lilly Anne and Rose. We hope this Xmas to be the turning point as we all hope to see Jay smiling and happy again!

Happy New Year to you all,
Love, Marie and Jay
